St. Jude Hospital Math-A-Thon
~The NJHS of St. Jude School will be sponsoring Math-A-Thon again this year.
~At more than 27 years old, Math-A-Thon is America's largest education-based fund-raiser. Math-A-Thon is a supplement math education program for grades K-9 that also serves as a fund-raiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. More than 25,000 schools and thousands of students participate to raise millions of dollars each year for the patients at St. Jude Hospital.
~The program is an entertaining and educational way for students to review their standard math skills, exercise problem solving skills and improve their critical thinking processes while learning about social awareness and volunteerism.
~Registration forms were sent home on December 1st. They need to be returned by December 15th. Books or CDs will be ordered over Christmas Break and will arrive in January. Students can work on getting pledges over the break. All students are encouraged to participate.

Help the Gift of Sight Foundation
Help the Gift of Sight Foundation recycle used eyewear for people in need around the world. This Halloween, the National Junior Honor Society is asking the St. Jude students to collect used eyewear and sunglasses during trick-or-treat night, October 31st. Volunteers from the Gift of Sight Foundation and the Lions Club International clean, repair, and classify the prescriptions and then hand deliver them to people in developing countries. Complete pairs of prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses of all shapes and sizes for all ages are suitable to donate. There will be a collection box in each homeroom. Please turn in all eyewear by Friday, November 3. NJHS suggests that you give your neighbors time to find their used glasses by placing door hangers on neighbors' doors on the weekend of October 27. More information and free collection materials can be found at www.sightnight.org or www.givethegiftofsight.com.
